HIGHLIGHTS
PACAYA NATIONAL RESERVE, ANDEAN SCENIC ROUTES
KUELAP, ruined walled city fortress of the Sachupoyans (Chachapoyans) occupied since 600AD. CAJAMARCA, Atahualpa's ransom room and natural hot springs.

ARRIVAL DAY IN LIMA: INWARD FLIGHT
Dinner in hotel in residential Lima (Miraflores) with option of Peruvian evening (pena).

DAY ONE
LIMA TRANSFER to airport for flight to the northern town of TARAPOTO (Amazon Basin). This busy town is our base for excursions to Lamas, an Indian village, Laguna de Sauce reached by crossing the Rio Huallaga on a raft and the Cataratas de Ahuashiyacu, waterfalls about 15km from Tarapoto.

DAY TWO
Early morning start to LAGUNAS and the Reserva Nacional Pacaya-Samiria. Largest of all of Peru's protected areas at 20,800 sq km. The reserve is the home of the manatee, pink and gray dolphins, two species of cayman, the giant South American river turtle, monkeys and birds. (Best from end of May to November) OVERNIGHT IN LOCAL LODGE

DAY THREE
RIO HUALLAGA and jungle drive. Drive through the jungle along the Rio Huallaga renowned for Class III whitewater and Class IV rapids to Yurimuagas for lunch, the major port on the Rio Huallaga whose wealth was founded on the rubber trade. Unmade roads to overnight in tropical style lodge at Moyobamba.

DAY FOUR
MOYOBAMBA to CHACHAPOYAS. Spectacular Amazon Basin and Cordillera scenery on rough roads, in comparatively remote mountain areas with local villages for stops. Overnight Chachapoyas evening in town, orchid gardens.

DAY FIVE
CHACHAPOYAS to KUELAP, a pre Inca city, accessed by a five hour detour from the main road (roundtrip). Overnight at Chillo, a tranquil retreat near mountain streams where our hosts prepare our supper.

DAY SIX
CHILLO to CAJAMARCA via Celendin (lunch). We stop at the Leimembamba museum containing mummies found at Laguna de los Condores and continue from Selva (jungle) through the pass to the Sierra (mountain range) at over 3000m. This route is amongst the most spectacular you will ever encounter. Arrive Cajamarca reaching nearby Banos del inca where we stay at the Laguna Seca Hotel located at the hot natural springs. Each room has its own plunge pool or use the pool in front of the chalets at any time. Dinner at this four star hotel in a mountain setting.

DAY SEVEN
CAJAMARCA. Morning drive to Aytambo (pottery trade school), Cumbe Mayo pre-Inca water channel complex and Ventanillas de Otuzco, pre-Inca necropoles, funerary niches built into the hillside or explore the Inca trail on foot. Evening transfer to Cajamarca airport for onward journey or

ARRIVAL DAY IN LIMA: INWARD FLIGHT
Dinner in hotel. Evening free in Miraflores, a quiet suburb on the Pacific Ocean and within walking distance of shops and restaurants.

DAY ONE
TRANSFER FROM HOTEL TO LIMA AIRPORT
FLIGHT FROM LIMA TO CAJAMARCA & CITY TOUR
Arrive Cajamarca International airport and taken for a city tour followed by lunch. Afternoon free time for relaxing in the hot springs and walks.

CAJAMARCA and BANOS DEL INCA
Capital of the department the city is 2650m above sea level with a population of 70,000. The climate is mild and the
surrounding countryside green and mountainous. The main attraction is Atahualpa's ransom room, filled with gold and then again with silver by the Inca leader in 1533 in return for his life. We also visit the Plaza de Armas, Cathedral and the church of San Francisco and the Cerro Santa Apolonia, a hill
overlooking the city where Atahualpa is said to have reviewed his troops. From Cajamarca we proceed to our hotel located at Banos del Inca (6km) where there are natural hot springs. Other pursuits include horse riding, motorcycling and walking the Inca trails.

DAY TWO
BANOS DEL INCA - FULL DAY EXCURSIONS TO VENTANILLA DE OTUZCO and COMBAYO, pre-Inca necropoles (burial sites) OR the village of LLACANORA and the working cattle ranch HACIENDA LA COLPA. Some of Llacanora's inhabitants still play the 3 mtr long bamboo trumpets. Early morning departure via dirt roads by four wheel drive climbing through spectacular scenery and where you have a packed lunch or meal. Return to hotel late afternoon. Dinner in Cajamarca.

DAY THREE
CHICLAYO VIA KUNTUR WASI (HUASI)
Through mountains and desert to CHICLAYO on the Pacific coast. Ruins of the temple complex of KUNTUR WASI, Chavin culture 400 BC. On our way we pass the newly constructed dam on the river Jequtepeque. Late arrival for check-in and supper at the hotel.

DAY FOUR
CHICLAYO & LAMBAYEQUE, MUSEUMS AND TUCUME
Panoramic tour of the city followed by a visit to Museum of Sican, Naymlap culture (800-1100AD). We continue to Lambayeque, an attractive colonial town, for an 'alfresco'lunch and visit the Museum of Sipan. This exceptional royal burial site (500AD) was only rescued fromfurther looting in 1987. Continue to TUCUME, or the Valley of the Pyramids, a vast (200 hectares) yet little known site, studied by a team led by the explorer Thor Heyerdahl. Transfer to airport for evening flight to Lima.

DAY FIVE
LIMA Day of leisure to visit either the museums (Museo de Oro exhibiting Inca Gold and Museo dela Nacion displaying Nasca ceramics and Paracas textiles) or go shopping for a
Alpaca woollens and silver jewellery. Explore Barranco's Art Galleries, and enjoy a Ceviche de Corvina (marinated sea bass) on the ocean in Miraflores. Transfer afternoon/evening to Lima airport for international departure.

DAY ONE
DEPART LIMA (Miraflores) by car to PARACAS
Your driver-guide collects you from Miraflores after breakfast for a three hour coastal drive to PARACAS. Check in to the Paracas Hotel located directly on the ocean front with
gardens and individual chalets. Swimming pool. Afternoon and evening free in Paracas village.

DAY TWO
Option morning excursion by motor launch (three hours) to the nature reserve on the Ballestos Islands with sea lions, sea wolves and guano deposits. Return to Paracas for lunch at the hotel followed by late afternoon drive , two hours to Ica. Evening entertainment in Ica at the historic Mossone Hotel located on an enchanting lake in an oasis with surrounding sand dunes.

DAY THREE
NASCA LINES FLIGHT
Drive to Nasca airport for early morning flight over the desert. Lunch at the Nido del Condor Hotel (optional swim at the pool). Return to farewell dinner on the terrace of the lagoon at the hotel.
