Rochester Dickens Festival
Rochester celebrates Charles Dickens at festival
This annual event has taken place in Rochester since 1978 and this three day event opens with a costumed parade through the streets.
The town has strong connections with Charles Dickens, living here until his demise at Gad’s Hill in 1870, with many of his novels drawing on actual buildings in and around the High Street. Restoration House in Rochester was the setting for Satis House in Great Expectations, where Miss Havisham lived. See also The Guildhall and Jasper’s House.
The event will include street entertainment, displays and readings with hundreds dressed in Victorian costume who will lead the parade through the High Street along Corporation Street and into Rochester Esplanade.
